WOOD, etc.

Rigid frames, lots of holes, blasting & painting, exhibition crates for client/artist

Laminated Baltic Birch plywood art frames

Prepped for paint.

Several templates are needed to blast and paint the ‘beads’

One of several colours the artist chose

Set up for drilling a few thousand holes…

Bespoke transport solution with mounting brackets designed to protect the painted edges of artwork.

Narrow Exhibition Crates minimize space, but roll more easily as one larger unit.

Exhibition crates with linking cleats.

Example of the “Un-crate/ Re-crate Instructions” provided with Exhibition Crates.

Another ARCH-TOP FRAME, carved laminate glass, and Exhibition Crate for client/artist

Lamination glue layup

Frame and glass stop completed

Transport/Exhibition Crate showing completed frame ‘dry-fit’ into opening.

Ready to close up and ship off…

GLASS & WOOD BOX with an internal “moving-projector-light ” mechanism for client/artist:

( mechanical component designed/fabricated brilliantly by an engineer acquaintance )

Pitched ‘roof’ glue layup

Discreet exhaust fan fits behind a heat shield and keeps the workings cool.

Black aluminum wrap over all exposed inner surfaces, including on an aluminum heat shield protects the wood and helps control any errant light-play.

Transport carriage protects the soft cedar and hand-carved glass.
(artwork pattern and canoe carving done by client)

Mounted securely to pallet/crate base, the piece can head off to Europe.

Threaded nut-inserts and pan head bolts makes the crate re-usable.

Process Design and Install Public Art “Bead-work Mural” for artist/client

4000 powder-coated metal discs (fabricated by Victoria Waterjet & Victoria Powder-coating)

Large punch template tiles allow for scaled pattern layout on 50′ x 25′ wall ( Yours Truly “gettin’ high ” at work…)

This is only a DRILL… ( I’ll keep telling myself, that… 3,999, 3998, 3997…)

Detail from finished installation.

Once all the holes were drilled, we power-washed and colour-stained the concrete wall before epoxy fitting the coloured metal discs (artist was also involved in install).

Spot the artist at work… 😉
