The frame for “WTTM” was made using an edge-grain fir door blank. Although the carved glass has been tempered, allowing the door to safely be used as such, the powder-coated steel stand is designed to accent the piece. As a door, the work represents a portal, or transition between two realities – the known and familiar on this side, and the unknown realm of possibility beyond. The carved patterns suggest systems and machinations of a great scale, partially glimpsed through this small window. By having the piece stand out of situ, the literal interpretation of a door becomes secondary to the notion of transformation through passage.
